Session 1: Nonprofit Essentials 101
As a nonprofit founder and or new board member, you will likely have questions you already know to ask or seek answers to, and there will be questions you don’t even know to ask! This first session will help you find your way during your first 12 months of becoming a nonprofit founder or board member.
This session highlights what nonprofit founders and leaders must do in their inaugural year, at a fundamental level, to build and sustain a nonprofit that is compliant and sustainable.
Session 2: Fundraising from Scratch
You’ll learn step-by-step and systematically how to get your fundraising going and how to start growing your income. This session will teach you the fundraising principles and everything you need to do to develop your fundraising strategy. This session is a practical guide and shares methods you can practice TODAY!
This session goes through all the different fundraising mediums available to you, the methods and motivators, and breaks down what you need to know to make them work for you. We’ll talk about cash collections, corporate fundraising, individual giving, donor care, Kickstarter and crowdfunding, grant applications, direct mail, e-mail, telephone fundraising, and more.
We’ll also talk about ‘the first 100 days’: your priorities and how you should spend your time.
Session 3: The Art of Storytelling for Nonprofits
Storytelling is one of the most valuable skills a nonprofit can develop.
The Nonprofit Story session teaches you how to create great stories using proven storytelling techniques and approaches.
This session is designed to teach you the ins and outs of storytelling by showing you the art and craft of how to plan, map out and produce amazing stories for your organization. In addition, the session gives you a step-by-step insight into what lies behind standout stories- because understanding and telling your story is a vital part of growing your organization.
Session 4: Social Media & Digital Marketing for Nonprofits
In this session, we take you through all things digital marketing. We show you where to start and how to build your digital marketing strategy with limited resources. We will go through the priorities of digital marketing and show you how different channels can be used to attract and engage supporters, recruit and retain donors, drive online actions, and communicate effectively with volunteers and other stakeholders.
We’ll talk about the following:
- How to use a Facebook group to foster community among your fans and followers
- How to optimize your social media posts to expand your mailing list and raise more money
- Social media marketing, including Facebook Marketing, Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, and Google Ads
- Other social media marketing, including Twitter, Pinterest, PPC advertising
- Google Analytics and Google Adwords
Section 5: Nonprofit Board of Directors Management
This session will cover the roles and responsibilities of each board member, including the Board Officers (Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary), and Executive Leadership will be addressed in detail, as well as the leadership balance between Board and Staff, along with the difference between governance and management.
- What makes for an engaging Board meeting, including setting the agenda and what goes into the meeting minutes.
- The purpose and roles of Board Committees and Advisory Councils are also covered.
- The Board’s role in fundraising and why it is required for most nonprofit boards is covered, along with hints to make the giving and getting process easier.
- The final section includes tips for evaluating your Board’s performance and recruiting and onboarding new members to keep your Board going and growing.
Section 6: Basic Grant Proposal Writing for Nonprofits
This session takes an in-depth look at what it takes to craft winning grant proposals for nonprofit programs. The session covers building your fundraising case, learning about different types of foundations and other funding sources, to the seven essential elements of a fundable proposal.
We’ll closely examine crafting strong outcomes statements, the use of storytelling to make an impact, and what funders are looking for.
